Biography
Curtis McGehee was born in Greenville, KY. He is 1982 graduate of Muhlenberg Central High School. He is married to Melissa Higgs McGehee. Melissa is a 1979 graduate of Hughes Kirk High School. They have three children, Jon 23, Robbie 21, and Caleb 17. Melissa currently works in the office at the East High School Campus.
Curtis’s leadership skills began to develop when he was in high school where he was actively involved in FFA. During his junior and senior year he served as chapter president. His senior year he also served as Pennyrile Regional President and upon graduating served as a state FFA officer. In the spring of 2009 he was chosen as the last honorary FFA member of the Muhlenberg South High School.
When Curtis graduated from high school he attended Hopkinsville Community College where he majored in law enforcement.
He has worked for two sheriffs as special deputy, chaplain and drug prevention coordinator. During his tenure with the department, he made or participated in numerous drug related arrests. Curtis had one case that was taken to the Kentucky Court of Appeals (click here to see documentation). The court determined that the arrest was legal and that Curtis followed proper procedures during the arrest. He has done research on drug abuse and has become a leader in prevention and intervention techniques. He also is sought after as a speaker and has developed a program on methamphetamine that has been shown numerous times throughout Central and Western Ky. Many community leaders view him as an authority on illegal substance abuse.
Perhaps the biggest success he has experienced is in the schools were Curtis has spent a lot of time training children and youth in drug awareness.
Curtis has also spent several years as a pastor and knows the importance of working with people and knows firsthand how the people of Muhlenberg County are being affected by criminal activity.
McGehee has a record of being honest, dedicated and hard working. He offers the leadership we need for the changes we desire.
