Drug Prevention
Start an aggressive drug prevention program, where children and youth will be provided with the knowledge that is necessary to make healthy decisions. To accomplish this, I would do the following things:
1. Work diligently to build a relationship with the school system to help children become fully aware of the consequences of making a poor decision when it comes to illegal drugs. Will use technology, including PowerPoint presentations, as well as other interesting and innovative ways to capture the attention of youth.
2. Develop an innovative website that will be child and youth friendly. The site would consist of a question and answer section that would permit children to know what to do if they are exposed to illegal drug activity or feel endangered in any way.
Drug Enforcement
1. Because residents are increasingly concerned about illegal drug activity, I will work to establish a good working relationship with all other law enforcement agencies.
2. The same website as mentioned earlier will also be available so that Muhlenberg residents may leave anonymous tips on the site.
3. Provide training to make sure that all deputies are well prepared for conducting investigations that relate to drug activity.
Senior Citizens
1. I feel that it is important to make sure that our senior citizens are as safe as possible. If elected sheriff, I will ensure police protection for the entire county.
2. Have special training for seniors that will make them aware of the latest scamming techniques.
3. The department will have a deputy that is trained in home security improvements. This deputy will be accessible to seniors or any other interested persons. The deputy would evaluate a home upon the request of the homeowner and suggest improvements to make the home as safe as possible.
4. Have special training days for seniors that might include but not be limited to: disposing of unused medications, what to do in emergency health situations, how to make sure you are prepared for an emergency, etc.
Personal
1. Have a policy and procedure manual for all department employees.
2. Be supportive of staff that works within the guidelines of policy and procedure.
3. When appropriate, will recruit outstanding men and women that will add to the department’s effectiveness.
Community Safety
1. I would work closely with emergency management and other local first responders to make certain that the county is well prepared for any unexpected emergency. Natural disasters and even extreme acts of violence may occur without warning, I feel that it is important to be as well prepared as possible .
2. Work diligently to make sure that our county is a safe zone for children. Build and maintain good relationships with social services. Teach children through Life Skills and other programs the importance of Internet safety and personal safety when dealing with strangers or people who may pose potential threat.
3. Provide police coverage for the entire county.
Public Relations
1. Strive to develop a positive image with residents of the county.
2. Make certain that all department officials maintain appropriate conduct so that a good image is portrayed.
3. Continue to be active in the community.
4. Strive to be a genuine professional in every area of law enforcement and leadership.
5. Build a strong working relationship with the court system.
6. Provide educational programs for all age groups to work toward a cleaner Muhlenberg County. The program will emphasize the significance of cleaner roadsides and portray a positive image as a community. I will work with the county court system, youth groups, the state, or any other interested parties at accomplishing this goal.
